Re: “Albtraum Moria - Europas ungelöstes Flüchtlingsproblem” (nominated)
We are proud that this touching topic also moved the jury of the German-French Journalism Award and are grateful for the nomination.
The report "Albtraum Moria - Europas ungelöstes Flüchtlingsproblem" (engl."Nightmare Moria - Europe's unsolved refugee problem") by Karsten Gravert from the ARTE Re:- series was nominated for the German-French Journalism Award.
On 8th September 2020, the refugee camp in Moria on the Greek island of Lesbos burned down completely and shocked the whole world. The camp was notorious for its overcrowded and undignified conditions.
After the fire, a new camp was built on the island to give shelter to the frightened people. The fear that the new camp will become another Moria 2.0 and fear of an infection with COVID-19 is spreading among the refugees. What do the inhabitants say about the new camp? What are the politicians doing? And what do the refugees say about the whole situation?
They only want one thing: to leave the fire, the camp and the island behind.
